Architecture
The house is carefully placed on a plot with many old pine trees and vegetation. When placing the house on the site we spend a lot of time finding the right spot so as few trees as possible would have to be cut down. All building materials are brought in by hand in our attempt to preserve as much of the vegetation as possible.

The house is laid out as a longhouse, with the central section offset. This allows for a west-oriented terrasse that gets shelter from the wind and it makes way for even more windows towards the north and south from the living room. In the offset central section, there is a kitchen and living room as one large, high-ceilinged space. At each end of the house, there is a bedroom and a bathroom.

The house is designed to be versatile and flexible, accommodating both a couple and a larger family gathering. This functional range is achieved through thoughtful space planning and the integration of furniture into the architecture.

The house is among the four finalists for the Thisted Municipality Architecture Award 2024.

Materials
The summer house is designed with a clean and simple material palette, focusing on the site’s natural beauty rather than unnecessary luxury.

Materials for the house are sourced locally and generally used biodegradable materials if possible. All wood for the roof and the facades are grown in Denmark and cut at a local saw mill. The windows are from the nearby window factory. All bricks used outside are from the local Helligsø Brickworks.

We have used a special foundation method that minimized the amount of concrete. The house is actually floating on top of the ground.

The interior is clad with pine plywood, creating a warm and cohesive atmosphere.
